Back
problems, half of which are the result of incorrect
lifting, are the main reason for absenteeism in the
work place today. The primary reasons for wear on the
back; arms, neck and shoulders are the constant lifting
of light objects and bending, twisting, reaching and
turning while performing lifting and carrying tasks.
According
to a recent Workplace Accident Prevention study by the
IAPA in Ontario most companies pay on average
$78,000.00 for every injured worker. The average cost
per back injury in Canada is $30,000 - $200,000.
In
Canada, 97 percent of all money spent on back injuries
goes towards treatment, with the remaining three percent
spent on prevention. Good job design and employee participation
can have tremendous impact on eliminating or reducing
back injuries. |
